Maiden Podium for the Ford Fiesta S1600

Ford’s new Fiesta S1600 achieved its maiden podium finish in a rally in the hands of Lambros Athanassoulas in Greece. The young Greek driver finished second in the S1600 class, in Rally Mavro Rodo (Black Rose), that took place on the 13th and 14th of May in Greece.
Lambros Athanassoulas and Nikos Mouzakis, who are backed by Ford Motor Hellas and sponsored by JetOil, had a difficult start, since an electrical problem slowed them down in the first special stage, the superspecial stage, costing them 15’’ to the other S1600 competitors.
Fortunately, the problem was quickly solved and they came back strongly winning 3 special stages, finishing in a well deserved second place.
This was the last race of the old spec Fiesta S1600 of Athanassoulas Rally Team, since it will be converted to the new M-Sport specs in time for the next event of the Greek Rally Championship, Rally Kentavros (tarmac) on the 4th of June.
Lambros commented after the race:
Our main target from the beginning was to bring the car to the finish. The problem in the superspecial made me push in the first loop of stages to win back places in the leaderboard. On the second loop we backed down to consolidate second place. The whole team has worked very hard for this result and I want to thank them all.
